About the artwork
The painting presents a stylized male figure with a rounded head, vivid green eyes, and a prominent, split mustache over red lips. Thick, swirling strokes of black, white, and slate grey define the heavy winter coat, contrasting with the warm, peachy flesh tones of the face. In the background, a saturated crimson stripe rises behind the head, cutting through fields of textured forest green bisected by a single horizontal yellow band. Oleksandr Roytburd was a prominent Ukrainian painter and a leading figure of the Ukrainian New Wave, known for his expressive, ironic figurative style and bold painterly syntax. At 140 by 120 cm, this large canvas holds substantial visual weight. The balance of graphic color blocks and heavy impasto makes it an assertive anchor piece for modern interiors, spacious living areas, or curated contemporary art collections.Details
