About

"For me, painting is a territory where information noise turns into the silence of an artifact. I try to extract an object from the hustle of everyday life and allow it to speak its true, metaphysical language that exists beyond time."

Ihor Konovalov is a prominent Ukrainian postmodernist and co-founder of the legendary "Squat on Olehivska." His work features intellectual painting that explores the nature of artifacts by deconstructing classical forms. Masterfully blending metaphysical depth with irony, he transforms everyday objects into philosophical images.
Ihor Konovalov is a pivotal figure in contemporary Ukrainian painting, whose creative journey is inextricably linked to the formation of a new artistic language in independent Ukraine. Born in 1964 in Zaporizhzhia, he became a co-founder of the legendary "Squat on Olehivska," which transformed Kyiv's hills into a center for radical artistic exploration in the 1990s. Konovalov's painting is a realm of intellectual games where classical tradition meets postmodern deconstruction. His original method, often described as "infodelica," focuses on exploring information flows and their impact on the perception of reality. The artist masterfully extracts objects from their everyday context, transforming them into metaphysical entities that exist beyond time. Konovalov's works are distinguished by complex color palettes and a unique approach to light, creating an effect of vibrating space.
