About the artwork

An aerial nighttime panorama of a modern city split by a winding river serves as the backdrop, bathed in deep blues and dotted with warm, glowing city lights. Jigsaw puzzle seams run across the entire picture plane. In the upper left quadrant, a stark monochrome depiction of a ruined, hollowed-out apartment block is integrated into the puzzle, its interlocking tabs cutting sharply into the nocturnal skyline. Ekaterina Ermolaeva is an artist working in conceptual photography and collage, bringing together fragmented imagery to explore contrasting urban realities. Measuring 89 by 64 cm within a dark border, the vertical composition functions as an intellectual focal point in minimalist, industrial, or contemporary interiors, inviting sustained viewing of its tactile puzzle surface and conflicting architectural themes.
