The composition centers on a modified one-hundred-dollar bill where the traditional portrait is replaced by the detailed face of an aged chimpanzee. The upper-right corner of the banknote is burned away, leaving a jagged, charred contour against the pale matting. The work is framed in a heavily carved, relief-patterned border finished in a matte, deep olive green.
Ilya Chichkan is an ironic and provocative painter recognized as a key figure of Ukraine's New Wave movement, frequently reinterpreting familiar cultural and societal iconography.
At 43 × 41 cm, this compact work carries a strong graphic presence that pairs naturally with contemporary collections, private libraries, or curated gallery walls.
