About the artwork
A central sword anchors the vertical composition, dividing detailed scenes of medieval warriors preparing for battle. Rendered in deep dark tones against a pale ground, the imagery depicts mounted cavalry, an archer drawing a bow, and soldiers armed with kite shields and spears. Above and below the central figures, ornate panels and small circular medallions display dense interlaced animal patterns, crosses, and mythical creatures reminiscent of early medieval metalwork. Serhiy Zapadnya is an artist working across graphic art and metaphorical painting, bringing meticulous detail and symbolic depth to historical subjects. With its controlled monochrome palette and generous white margins, this vertical print brings a quiet, archival presence to a study, private library, or collector's interior.Details
