About

"Art for me is a way to stop a moment and see the eternal in the mundane details."

An artist with a unique authorial style that masterfully combines classical etching techniques with bold modern metaphors. His work is a deep philosophical exploration of the thin boundaries between reality and the subconscious. Through intricate lines and complex textures, Serhiy creates a visual language that reflects the industrial aesthetics and the spiritual search of the contemporary era.
Sergiy Zapadnya (b. 1988) is a prominent Ukrainian graphic artist and master of etching and intaglio, whose career symbolizes a pursuit of technical perfection and conceptual depth. A graduate of NAOMA, he was awarded the Academy's Silver Medal for his profound research into classical techniques. Zapadnya’s vision focuses on the "mechanism of evolution" — the transformation of a simple line into a complex metaphor for human existence. As a member of the "YOD" art group, he was at the forefront of the Kyiv squatting movement, infusing his style with rebellious energy balanced by a rigid structure. The artist draws inspiration from industrial landscapes and the austere aesthetics of urbanism. For Sergiy, art is a meditative dialogue between the physical world and the subconscious, an attempt to conceptualize the "New Ukrainian Dream." His works are not mere reproductions of reality but a conscious step toward understanding the internal architecture of the spirit.
