About

"Art does not tolerate falsehood. For me, true beauty has always resided in the truth of life — whether in the stern grandeur of industrial structures or in the quiet prayer of the Carpathian forest. An artist must be a chronicler of their time, passing down to descendants not just a landscape, but the very soul of their native land."

A prominent representative of the Soviet-era Ukrainian realism school. His brand is defined by the monumentalization of the industrial landscape and the poetic depiction of the Carpathian nature. Onyshchenko’s works are characterized by a balanced composition, deep atmospheric perspective, and a focus on the harmony between labor and the environment.
Serhiy Stepanovych Onyshchenko is a titan of Ciscarpathian painting, whose work became a benchmark of Ukrainian realism in the second half of the 20th century. Having endured the trials of World War II, he brought a deep humanistic principle and a monumental perspective on peaceful labor to art. Onyshchenko entered history as an unsurpassed master of the industrial landscape: in his canvases, the stern architecture of Kalush chemical plants acquires aesthetic grandeur, harmoniously blending into the landscape of the Carpathian foothills. His style is distinguished by structural composition, impasto brushwork, and an exceptional sense of aerial perspective. Beyond industrial themes, the artist revealed himself as a subtle lyricist in chamber landscapes, where nature appears in a state of tranquility and eternity. As an honorary citizen of Kalush and a member of the Union of Artists since 1967, he not only documented the era of the region's development but also laid the foundations for the professional artistic environment of the region.
