Studio visit: Anna Mironova

A morning in the Kyiv studio behind the founding collection.

Anna's studio occupies the top floor of a 1920s residential building in Podil, with skylights cut into a roof that was rebuilt twice — once after the war, once in 2007 when she bought the space. The current series, which she's been working on since spring, started with a single observation: that the colour of the Dnipro at dawn changes when wildfires burn upstream. She has been mixing the same three pigments for four months trying to reproduce one shift of light she remembers from August. "I don't believe in the moment of inspiration" she says, when asked. "I believe in the moment when you finally stop arguing with the canvas."
