About

"Art is not a mirror; it is a hallucination that helps to see the true essence of things. I simply capture that moment when everyday life turns into cinema, and a person becomes their screen double."

Vasil Tsagalov is a master of visual provocation and postmodern painting. His brand is based on deconstructing mass culture myths, using cinematic plots, and creating ironic parallel realities. Tsagalov's works are intellectual thrillers where classical technique blends with sharp social satire and philosophical absurdity.
Vasil Tsagalov is a pivotal figure in Ukrainian contemporary art, whose practice served as a bridge between the radical actionism of the 90s and intellectual postmodern painting. His creative method is based on the concept of "mythologizing reality," where mass culture, cinema, and conspiracy theories intertwine with everyday life. Tsagalov masterfully manipulates images of mass consciousness, creating large-scale canvases with a recognizable "storyboard effect" and the use of a clean white background, which transforms the painting into a screen or a stage space. His characters — office workers, ballerinas with assault rifles, aliens, or mythological figures — exist in a state of absurd thriller, exposing the vulnerability of modern humans to media manipulation. Tsagalov's art is a subtle game on the edge of kitsch and sharp social criticism, which has made him one of the most expensive and influential artists in the region.
